Doris J. Scruggs

Doris J. Scruggs, 93, of Delmar passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 12, 1928, in Delmar, a daughter of the late Carl and Myrtle Wilkins. Mrs. Scruggs began her career at the Dupont Company in Seaford before going to work at Delmar High School, serving many years in the cafeteria. She also worked for the PRMC Junior Board in Salisbury, taking baby pictures and helping with the television activation in patient’s rooms upon arrival. She was an active member of Melson’s United Methodist Church in Delmar where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was a member of the UMW. She will be remembered for her love for her family, her church and the wonderful love and care she provided to Joseph through the years. She is survived by her granddaughter, Mary Ann Mueller; great-grandson, Joseph Mueller; nieces and nephews, Dawn Webb (Mike), Edward Wilkins (Cindy), Mike Wilkins (JoAnn), and Charles Jacobs; a special great niece, Shannon Iniestra (Eric) who she thought of as a granddaughter; and several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford T. Scruggs; a daughter, Connie Jones McCoy; brothers, Carl E. Wilkins and Edward Wilkins; and sisters, Frances Farlow, Julia Joseph, Abby Rickards, and Elizabeth Jacobs; niece, Joyce Joseph Mitchell; nephews, Carlton Jacobs, David Wilkins, and Steve Wilkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. For everyone’s safety, the family has requested the wearing of masks. Pastor John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow the service in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mrs. Scruggs, contributions may be sent to Melson’s United Methodist Church, 32705 Melson Road, Delmar, MD 21875.
