William G. Pokorny

William “Bill” G. Pokorny, II, 71, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born October 17, 1951, in Mineola, New York, a son of the late William G. Pokorny and Ruth Fisher Pokorny. Bill graduated from Carle Place High School in Mineola, New York with the class of ’69. He earned his master’s degree in community mental health counseling from Long Island University after earning his undergraduate degree. He devoted his life to helping people as a therapist and worked up until his health would no longer allow. For several years he owned his own practice before working for several organizations and most recently Delaware Guidance in Seaford. Throughout the years, Bill had many interests. He set up elaborate, large model railroad layouts and was most interested in the history of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Long Island Railroad. He was an active member of the Delmarva Model Railroad Club for many years. He also had a love for Corvettes, owning his own and belonging to the Eastern Shore Corvette Club, and the Beachcombers Corvette Club. Bill looked forward to holidays with family and friends and especially adored Christmas and Halloween. He will be remembered for his elaborate decorating, dressing up for Halloween to take the grandkids trick-or-treating and spooking up his front porch. In Bill’s eyes you could never decorate too much. He also loved old horror movies and Sci-fi movies, especially ones from the 50’s and 60’s. Bill had a special place in his heart for pets and absolutely adored his dogs, “Chewie” and “Jazzy.” He will be remembered as a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather who would do anything for his family. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sylvia Collins Nichols; daughters, Kara Berglund and companion, Kenny Kelly and Stacey Nichols-Saunders and husband, Daman; sons, Brett Berglund and Lee Berglund; granddaughters, Maci Schultz and Paige Kelly; grandson, Charles Rhem; brother, Tom Milton; sister, Ellen Pokorny Deister; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which will begin at 12:00. Interment will be private at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of Wicomico County, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.
