Thomas E. (Ted) Dickerson

Thomas E. (Ted) Dickerson, 82, of Snow Hill, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at home. Born in Snow Hill on July 31, 1926, the child of the late James D. Dickerson, and Annie Gray Dunlap Dickerson. He was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Esther Leigh Shockley Dickerson in 2002, a son, Jeffrey Thomas Dickerson in 1994, three brothers, James, David and Vernon Dickerson, and one sister, Catherine Mustian. Ted is survived by one son, Jerry W. Dickerson, and wife, Debbie, Snow Hill; two daughters, Janet L. Williams and husband, Dave, Frostburg, Md., and Jennifer L. Scott and husband, Michael, Salisbury; seven grandchildren, Jason Williams and wife, Krista, Winchester, Va., Jeremy Williams and wife, Laura, Frostburg, Jodi Bittinger and husband, Ron, Frostburg, Josh Williams and wife, Jessica, Needmore, Pa., Jessica and Jamie Dickerson, Snow Hill, and Jonathan Scott (PopPop’s special helper and loving sidekick) of Salisbury; eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jared Bittinger and Jocelyn and Jacob Williams of Frostburg, Eli and Lucas Williams of Winchester, and Noah and Hannah Williams of Needmore; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends and family members. He was a member of Bates Memorial United Methodist Church. He retired from Delmarva Power and Light in 1983 after 36 years, where he was a member of the Vingt Cinq Club. As a child he was raised on a farm near Warrenton, N.C. As a teenager, he worked on a farm near Snow Hill. Ted had many friends (no matter where he went) whom he cared for greatly. He loved his family and always provided for them. He was able to fix his cars and repair just about anything. He was always willing to help out. He loved to travel and tell stories about times past until the end of his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor. No trip was too far. He traveled many back end roads taking in the sights while driving his station wagons. He delivered the Baltimore Sun and News American for more than 30 years with his children. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed having a garden to provide food for family and friends. Ted was active with the Boy Scouts during the 1960's as well as with the Girl Scouts along with his wife for nearly 30 years. He accompanied the Girl Scouts of Troop 6 from Snow Hill on several trips to places like Mexico, California, and Europe during the 1970's and ‘80's and was known as "Mr. D." A memorial service will be held on Sunday,at 2 p.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. The Reverend Mark Avens will officiate.
