Ruth Redden Taylor

GIRDLETREE- Ruth Redden Taylor, 78, of Girdletree, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. She was born August 29, 1932 in Willards, a daughter of the late Milton M. Baker and Marian Thelma Esham Baker. Ruth attended Girdletree United Methodist Church for many years before it’s closing. She was a member of the Girdletree Volunteer Fire Department and was also active with the Ladies Auxiliary and the fire police. For 35 years she enjoyed sharing the duties of managing the family business, Corker’s Creek Farm, with her late husband, Merrill. After he died she continued managing the farm for another 25 years. She was a very dedicated, loving grandmother who cherished the memories made with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and found joy from working in her yard and flowers. Ruth was also an animal lover who had a variety of pets and loved them all, especially her two very special dogs, “Jake” and “Buddy.” She is survived by five daughters, Patricia “Polly” R. Darby of Punta Gorda, Florida, Mary R. Wootten of Parsonsburg, Linda R. Martin and her husband, Chuck of Berlin, Joan R. Bunting and her husband, William of Snow Hill and Jean R. Culver and her husband, Freddie Glasgow of Eden; a brother, Robert Lewis of Millsboro; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Merrill F. Redden, who passed in 1983; her second husband, Preston J. Taylor, who passed in 2009; a sister, Margaret; and brothers Horace and Harold. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Cemetery in Girdletree. Chaplain Dick Bunting will officiate.
