Robert G. "Bob" Harman

DELMAR- Robert “Bob” G. Harman, 69, of Delmar, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at his home in Delmar with his wife Karilyn and daughter Lisa at his side after a brief illness. He was born January 9, 1947, in Philadelphia, the only child of Debra M. West, his beloved mother of Sebring, Florida, and the late Norman Harman. Bob grew up attending Catholic school in Philadelphia until moving to Berlin, Maryland, with his dad. As a teenager, he would help his dad selling seafood from his truck and also worked as a lifeguard on summer breaks in Ocean City. After graduating from Stephen Decatur High School, he worked at Automatic Equipment Sales selling air conditioning units. He proudly served his country in the Army Reserves. He owned American House Movers with his partner Kenny Bell. This job taught him to be an excellent mason. He would build the foundation for some of the houses he moved. Bob always had a passion for cars -- all makes and models. He started on his car journey where he would buy a car and resell it from his front yard in Walston Switch. Shortly after that he started a small car lot called Harman Motors on Main Street in Salisbury, with his partner Sonny Wilkerson. When this business needed more space it moved to its current location, 939 North Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury where it remained for more than 31 years. He loved working with people and serving his community in any way possible. He enjoyed the many trips to the Manheim Auto Auction to buy and sell cars for the car lot. His daughter Chrissy and son Billy would also go with him and Sonny to Manheim. They would inspect the cars and walk through each lane to find the best cars to re-sell to his loyal customers. Bob says “Thank you all!” Bob was an avid golfer and loved to play at T.K.’s Back Nine on Johnson Road where he would play for the Moose Lodge #654 golf tournament 3 bucks and a doe. He was a Moose member since 1982 in Salisbury. He was an excellent gin player. He would play for hours with many of his friends, Chris Banks, Kitty Butler, Jeff Malcolm, and Rodney Long. Hopefully all his deceased gin-playing buddies, Elno, Lee, Harry, Joe and Ed will be shuffling the cards upon his arrival. He is remembered as a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. Bob was a dog lover and will be missed by his two wire fox terriers, Micky and Susie, whom he loved dearly. In addition to his mother, he is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Karilyn Ott-Harman; his children, Lisa C. Harman of Fruitland, George R. Harman (Hope) of Salisbury, Billy D. Harman of Delmar and Chrissy H. Lynch of Delmar; a very special son-in-law, Robbie Lynch of Parsonsburg; step-children, Christa R. Davila (Tomas) of Federalsburg, Amy W. Cossairt (Desiree) of Salisbury and Lynn M. West (Ryan Lecates) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Brittany, Danielle, Amanda, Walker, and Brayden; step-grandchildren, Shelby, Strayer, Wyatt, Blaine, Linda, Stephen, Matthew, Hannah Jane, Sadie, and Rylan; and great grandchildren, Aaron, Hallie, Mason, Shane and Layla. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sheila and Chipper Beasley of Salisbury who helped take care of him; his mother’s sister, Jeanie P. Howard; cousins, Jeanie, Susan and Billy, all of Jacksonville, Florida. He will miss his long-time business partner and great friend, Sonny Wilkerson (Joy) of Salisbury; his close friends, Art and Walter Webster, Kenny Bell, Mike Volmer and Dave and Michael Palone; his very special friend and mentor Johnny Williams (Hazel) from Winterhaven, Florida; and a special nephew, Johnny Revel (Wendy). In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Carroll West, with whom he had a very special relationship; and his grandparents, Joseph and Madeline Fiss and Reese and Maggie Harman. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, physical therapist, CNAs from hospice and Amedsys for the great care and comfort they provided for Bob in his time of need. A special thank you goes to Ruth and April, thank you all. A memorial service will be at a later date at the request of his family. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
