Mary Jane Davenport

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Davenport, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 19, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on April 21, 1939, in Salisbury, Maryland, Mary Jane spent her life devoted to her family, her faith, and her community. She was a daughter of the late Earl and Nina (Hicks) Harrington. In her younger years she enjoyed a career in banking and secretarial work, but found her calling being a proud homemaker. Mary Jane dedicated her days to nurturing her family and creating lasting memories. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Davenport, who she married on February 17, 1978; her cherished daughter, Wendy Shores and husband, David; her adored grandson, Dawson Shores; her step sons, William Davenport and Thomas Davenport and his wife, Anna; and her loving step-grandchildren, Gabriel Davenport and Hillary Hyde. Mary Jane also leaves behind her dear sister, Dorothy "Dot" Dickerson, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones who will miss her greatly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Northrup, a sister, Shirley Forse and a brother, Earl Harrington, Jr. Mary Jane was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Delmar, where she shared her faith and passion for children through her roles as a Sunday School teacher, Director, and librarian. Her heart was as warm as her smile, and she cherished the time spent with her church family, especially during Vacation Bible School. A lover of life, Mary Jane found joy in the simple pleasures: getting her hair done, enjoying manicures, dining out, visiting Lancaster, talking on the the phone with Gail and Joann and above all, spending time with her family. She was a constant source of support, cheering on Wendy through softball games, celebrating her grandson Dawson's achievements on the little league and soccer fields, watching her step-grandson, Gabriel, at the little league fields and proudly supporting Ronald during church softball leagues. Mary Jane's legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her. As we remember her vibrant spirit, let us celebrate a life well-lived, marked by laughter, compassion, and faith. Funeral services will be held in her honor on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment will follow at Firemen's Cemetery in Sharptown. The Reverend Dr. Jon Morris will be officiating the celebration of life service.
