Margaret L. Manning

Margaret L. “Peggy” Manning, 91, of Delmar, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Delmar Manor Assisted Living, where she had resided for the past 8 years. She was born May 24, 1931, in Wilmington, Delaware, a daughter of the late William H. Spicer and Mildred Calhoun Spicer. Peggy retired after many years of service in administration at the Social Security office in Salisbury. She loved her work and even the challenge of working her way up within the ranks. In her younger days she was an active member of Parsonsburg United Methodist Church and the Delmar VFW Post 8276 Auxiliary. She had a huge place in her heart for animals and was especially fond of dogs. She loved shopping, eating out, antiquing, and finding anything with “bling.” One of Peggy’s most prized possessions was her Mazda Miata convertible; she absolutely loved that car even though most of her family could hardly fit in it. She also enjoyed traveling, craft shows and showing up at family functions with her famous corn pudding. Her greatest love was for her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Stephen W. Hastings and wife, Debra of Newport, NC, David W. Hastings and wife, Sherri of Laurel and Kathryn Gustafson and significant other, Craig Smith of Laurel; grandchildren, Tamila Hastings Small (James), Gregory Wright Hastings, Timothy Seigman, Michael David Hastings (Krissi), Kimberly Ann Brittingham, Jessica Lynn James (Steven), Heather Bashus (James), Amanda Gross (significant other, Brandon), and Dale Froehlich; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren with one more on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Barber and half-sisters, Linda and Susan, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth S. Manning, Jr., who passed in 2010. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. Pastor Joel Beiler will officiate.
