Lois Mae McAllister

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lois Mae McAllister of Georgetown, formerly of Laurel, beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated healthcare worker, who left this world on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on January 5, 1955, in Salisbury, MD, Lois will be fondly remembered for her compassion, commitment to her work, and love of life. Lois proudly graduated from Delmar High School and, first, owned and operated a family cleaning business with her husband, Mike. She also spent countless hours helping those in need in the community through a food pantry and clothing closet operated by the couple. Later, she dedicated her working years to helping others as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Nanticoke Health Services. Her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication touched the lives of countless patients and families throughout her time at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. After several fulfilling years in the healthcare field, she retired due to health issues, but the impact of her compassionate care will never be forgotten.Outside of her professional life, Lois had a profound love for fishing and reading, often relishing peaceful moments by the water. Music was another passion that brought joy to her life, filling her days with rhythm and melody. She is survived by her dedicated daughter and caregiver, Kirsten McAllister and her partner Jackson, and her son, Aaron McAllister and wife Amanda; a granddaughter, August McAllister; and many nieces and nephews. Lois's warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Norwood McAllister, who passed in 2001; her mother, Rose Veronica (Smith) Baker; sisters, Rose Anna Moore and Helene Gilbert; and brothers, Harvey "Butch" Baker and Raymond Baker. A celebration of Lois' life will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lois's memory to honor her love for all animals to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, Georgetown Campus by visiting https://bvspca.org/donate/donation-form Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
