Henry George Freeman

Henry "Hank" George Freeman, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, surrounded by loved ones. While the last several months have been painful and hard to bear, Hank never complained- he dealt with it with dignity and grace. Born on January 7,1947, in St. James, Minnesota, he was a son of the late Wilhelmina “Minnie” and George Freeman. Hank led a life filled with rich experiences and cherished memories. Hank courageously served his country in the United States Navy, completing two tours in Vietnam, where he earned two service medals and later being recalled to serve during the Desert Shield campaign. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he continued to honor his service as a member of the American Legion during his time in Pennsylvania. Hank's career with BCI as a truck driver, transporting equine and pet supplies, ended too soon due to health issues. However, when working, he truly enjoyed being out on the open road and helping his clients and co-workers whenever he was able. He was grateful to recognize that his job took him to see places he would have never seen and meet great people that he would never have met. A man of simple pleasures, Hank found joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid camper, boater, and fisherman, embracing the tranquility of country living. His heart raced for the thrill of NASCAR, particularly for his beloved Richard Petty, whom he was fortunate enough to meet several times. Hank's passion for old school NASCAR brought him great joy and a sense of community among fellow fans. Hank's legacy will be remembered through those who loved him and shared in his passions. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 48 years, Carol Ann (Whaley) Freeman; and his adoring daughter, Carol Lee Vitro and husband, Victor of Hazle Township, PA; a sister, Jeanette Granum; a cousin, who was a close as a brother to him, Larry Bohm; his mother-in-law, Catherine Cook; and his beloved 4 legged dogs, Bailey and Scrappy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. A memorial service to honor Hank's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith UCC Church, 21 Faith Drive, Hazleton, PA 18202. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his remarkable life, reflect on cherished memories, and share stories that will carry his spirit forward. He will be laid to rest at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware on Friday, May 2, 2025, where a chapel service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion in your area in memory of Hank.
