Elizabeth E. Elliott

Elizabeth E. Elliott, 90, of Mardela Springs, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. She was born November 17, 1922 in Sharptown, Maryland a daughter of the late Wildey and Hattie Elzey. Early in her marriage, Elizabeth worked with her husband on their farm growing watermelons and cantaloupes. For many years, she had a shop in her home, where she enjoyed selling her handmade crafts. She made beautiful blankets, baby afghans, placemats and many other items to sell. She later went to work for the Wicomico County Board of Education in the Mardela High School cafeteria, as well as, having other retail jobs in her early life. In the early 1990’s she worked at the Old Mill Crab House in Delmar, where she would help prepare the fried chicken. Mrs. Elliott was a member of the Westside Historical Society in Mardela Springs, and a faithful past member of the Mardela Springs Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Mardela Springs Homemakers Club. Throughout her life she enjoyed camping in Chincoteague, crocheting, selling Avon, and most importantly, taking care of her grandsons as they were growing up. She is survived by her son; Benjamin “Benny” Elliott, Jr. (Linda); two grandsons, Mark B. Elliott and Michael W. Elliott; three step- grandchildren, Michelle Wright (Charles), JC Moore (Jeanne), and Shannon Webster (Shane); five step great-grandchildren, Charles Wright, Morgan Wright, Dalton Webster, Logan Webster and Wyatt Webster; a niece, Mary Louise Richardson; and a nephew, Walter Charles Mann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Benjamin “Franklin” Elliott, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy C. Elliott; two brothers, Levin T. Elzey and Meredith Elzey; and two sisters, Sarah Mae Mann and Almeda Hopkins. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mardela Memorial Cemetery. The Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. In memory of Mrs. Elliott, contributions may be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 344, Sharptown, MD 21861.
