Elizabeth Marie Cockey

Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marie Cockey, a devoted special needs teacher whose kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the age of 23. Born on August 6, 2000, in Salisbury, MD, Lizzi leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to her students and community. Lizzi graduated from James M. Bennett High School with the class of 2018. Throughout her life, Lizzi pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor's Degree from UMES and working as a Special Needs Teacher for Sandy Hill Elementary School, where she taught kindergarten and 1st grade students. Her commitment to helping those in need and her unwavering support for her students made her a beloved figure in the school district. She was a proud member of the Orange Hive and will be remembered for her high level of energy, her friendly smile and one of the coaches of the Sandy Hill Cheer Team. In addition to helping those with special needs, cheerleading was her other passion. Her love for cheerleading started at 7 years old and continued into adulthood as she became a coach and mentor to those at Maryland Twisters in Salisbury, including their special needs team. She was known for her dedication, passion for the sport, and the positive impact she had on athletes and colleagues alike. Lizzi loved everything Disney, especially Lilo & Stitch, pizza, country music, especially Luke Bryan and Hardy, traveling to country music concerts with her mom, the outdoors, the beach, all animals (especially her late dog, Reese) and camping with her dad. Lizzi was also really good at putting puzzles together, diamond painting and adding to her collection of POPS. Her memory will forever be cherished by her mother, Cindy Snyder Cockey, father, Delmas D. "Chip" Cockey, III and wife, Amy, sister, Lauren Cockey, step-brother, Brady Cheesman, and a very special nephew, Carter Graham. She is also survived by grandparents, Sharon Chapman and Pat Adkins and husband, Phil, and several cousins and close friends. Lizzi's impact extended far beyond her immediate family, as her colleagues, friends, and students will always remember her as a beacon of kindness and understanding. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Delmarva Evangelistic Church, 408 Gordy Road in Salisbury, and also held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 10:00 am, with the funeral service following at 11:00 am. Pastor Robert “Buzz” Gregory will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Maryland Twisters Salisbury, c/o Shooting Stars, 27232 Riverside Drive Ext., Salisbury, MD 21801.
