Carter Shayne Figgs

Carter Shayne Figgs, age 16, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on March 13, 2007, in Salisbury, a son of Brandon Figgs and Laurie Knapp. Carter was loving life as a junior at Delmar High School, where he was a proud member of the varsity football team, the wrestling squad and baseball team. He proudly wore the number 32 as he was a two-sided player as a linebacker and running back. Through his involvement in youth sports, he met Bill Hearn who became a close friend and mentor to Carter. Bill gave him a job as a helper on the construction crew for Shoreman Construction for several years. He was also currently working as a cook at Pizza King in Laurel. In addition to sports, Carter loved his PS5 games, the outdoors, especially fishing, crabbing and four wheeling. He also loved music of all types, amusement parks and was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. Carter also had a huge heart for family and friends and will be remembered as the one who would motivate you whenever you needed a push. He had his own wonderful sense of humor too and was always the jokester in any crowd. Hugs were his love language, and he never ended a phone call without an “I Love You” to his mother, father and many other friends and family members. 32 Forever. He is survived by his mother Laurie Elaine Knapp; father and stepmother, Robert Brandon Figgs and Brittany; siblings, Averie Figgs, Parker Saunders, Dakota Roberts, and Beckham Figgs; aunts and uncles, Megan and Connor Willey, Brittany and Levi Mendoza, Amos Fisher, Alex Knapp, Bekah Knapp, Erika and Shawn Lowicki, Matt and Melissa Gulden, Laurie Duncan, Tonya Caputo, Haley Scott, Angie Givens, Vince Stewart and Jayden Napier; and many cousins. He is also survived by grandparents, Russell Knapp and wife Christie, Angela Brown, Donna Figgs, Robert “Bobby” Figgs and Penny and Matt Dawson. He was preceded in death by a baby brother that he never got to meet; uncle, Doug Fisher; and cousin, James Joyner. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Delmar High School from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00. Followed by a funeral service which begins at 1:00. Interment will follow the service in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Delmar Athletic Booster Club, 200 N. 8th Street, Delmar, DE 19940.
