Barbara Lee Rayne

Barbara Lee Rayne, of Delmar, beloved music teacher and talented organist, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on May 3, 1935, in Salisbury, MD, the only child of the late Luther Collins and stepmother, Bertha and Dorothy Bell Collins. She dedicated her life to sharing her love of music with her students and church communities and leaves behind a legacy of musical passion and dedication. Barbara's mother lost her life not long after she was born, but by the grace of God, Granville and Eilen Sullivan stepped in to help her father raise and nurture her throughout her formative years. On June 14, 1953, she married the love of her life, Charles Everett Rayne, with whom she shared a wonderful life for over 65 years of marriage, until his passing in 2019. Throughout her life, Barbara served as the organist for various churches, including Mt Olive UMC and St. Stephen's UMC, where her beautiful music touched the hearts of many. As a music teacher, she imparted her knowledge and love for music to countless children and adults. Barbara cherished her family dearly and enjoyed creating cherished memories with them. Camping trips and winters in Florida were among her favorite activities, bringing joy and laughter to those she loved. Red Lobster was a special gathering place for Barbara and her family, where they shared many meals, celebrated birthdays, and anniversaries. Known for her culinary skills, Barbara's family will fondly remember her delicious dishes, especially her famous liver and onions and deviled eggs. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her son, Michael C. Rayne and wife Florence, daughter Dori Mowbray and husband Kenny, grandchildren, Anna, Stephanie and husband Daniel, Cindy and husband Shane, Brinkley and fiancé Kobe Kraft, and Kori and husband Max, great grandchildren, Leah and husband Mike, Alissa, Samantha, Lisa and Travis, fiancé Zachary, Lindsey and Andrew, and great-great grandchildren, Gideon, Liam, Tyler and Trevor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Everett Rayne, daughters, Robin Travis and Susan Rayne as an infant, and a son, David Rayne. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Cemetery Park in Delmar.
