Amelia "Millie" Ann Hall

Amelia "Millie" Ann Hall, 60, of Laurel, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, after spending months at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. She was born in Salisbury on July 20, 1951, a daughter of the late Vincent Leo Schumacher and Nancy Stokes Schumacher. She was born and raised in Delmar and graduated from Delmar Jr-Sr High with the Class of 1969. Millie's interest in helping others started at a young age as she was actively involved with an association that helped special needs children. Millie also enjoyed going to the beach, camping, shopping and being an active mom. She enjoyed supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. She worked as a licensed practical nurse with the Division of Public Health for 41 years. Even after retirement, she helped administer flu shots and once a month helped with blood pressure screening and educating the public about healthcare for AARP in Georgetown. Millie was a vital part of the Laurel community and the surrounding areas and was always willing to help out when there was a need. She was a long time, active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel, where she served in many ways. Her passion was the kitchen at Centenary and always loved cooking for anyone in need or any church event. With her love for cooking she played an important role in the Church's Food Pantry and used that time to also help those in need with blood pressure screening and health services. She was also an active member of the Sunshine Class and the UMW. Millie was a board member of Chrysalis, a Christian teen retreat, where she served as registrar. Through her service with Chrysalis she changed many young lives with her guidance. She was also a very active member and Past Noble Grand of the Martha Rebekah Lodge 21 in Laurel and enjoyed volunteering with their many wonderful service projects and the haunted house. She lived life to the fullest and always enjoyed being there for her kids, whether it was serving as Cub Scout Master or being a part of the "Pep Posse," a group of parents from Laurel High that would travel with the band, cheering them on while rooting for the football team. For many years she also helped organize the Laurel Alumni Banquet and was a member of the Delmar Alumni Association. Because of her love for community and always helping others in need, she was proudly awarded the Laurel Citizen of the Year Award in 2006. She is survived by her husband of almost 41 years, Joseph "Jay" R. Hall; 2 children, Amy Yoder and her husband, Jay of Delmar and Blair Hall and his wife, Rachel of Laurel ; a sister, Jeanie M. Ward of Delmar; 3 grandchildren, Jason, Ashley and Austin Yoder of Delmar; and a niece, Kerry Ward of Delmar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Joe and Mary Hall, and a brother-in-law, Keith Ward. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel, and also on Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Rebekah service will begin Wednesday at 11:00, followed by a funeral service. Pastors Blair Hall and Joseph Burris will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
